What we keep, and why

We are a small team making wildlife stories for families. We keep a little information about visits and about chats with Bumble so we can make the stories and the site better. We never sell it, and we run no advertising trackers.

When you visit

For each page you open we note:

In these notes your IP address is scrambled the moment it arrives, and we cannot turn the scrambled version back into your address. Like every website, our web server also keeps a standard access log, which does include addresses; we use it only to keep the site running safely and it is overwritten as it fills.

When you talk to Bumble

Bumble is the club's honeybee helper. Her answers are written automatically from our own animal stories; no person replies live. We keep what was typed and what Bumble answered, so we can see where she helped and where she got stuck.

Please do not share names, ages, addresses or other personal details. If an email address, phone number or street address is typed anyway, we blank it out before anything is saved.

When you join the email list

To get the free book you tick a box to say you are a grown-up and would like the book by email. A second box, empty until you tick it, is for news about the next animal. The book comes whether you tick the second box or not.

We keep:

We then send you two mails. The first asks you to confirm that the address is yours. Nothing happens until you press the button on the page it opens. If nobody presses it, we send that address nothing more unless the form is filled in again. The second mail comes once you have pressed the button, and it carries the book. We send news only if you ticked the news box, and only to an address that has confirmed.

You will find an unsubscribe link in each mail. It opens a page with one button, and one press stops all email to that address. We keep the address on a do-not-email list so that we never write to you again by mistake. To have everything we hold about you deleted, the do-not-email entry too, write to [email protected] and we delete it.

The mails travel through a delivery service that carries them for us. We use your address for nothing else.

Cookies

We set no cookies. Your browser remembers whether you chose day or night mode, and keeps your Bumble chat until you close the tab. That stays on your device.

How long we keep it

Visit notes and chats are kept for 13 months, then deleted. Your email address and the details above are kept until you ask us to delete them.

Children

The club is made for families to enjoy together. We do not ask children for any personal information, and Bumble is told never to ask for it.

Your choices

Write to [email protected] to ask what we hold. Write to us too if you want a chat deleted, or everything about your email address. For a chat, tell us roughly when you chatted and what about, and we will find it and remove it.
